Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi offer Ukraine mediation at BRICS summit

At the BRICS summit in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered to mediate peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly welcomed this proposal, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that Putin received detailed information regarding the current situation during bilateral contacts.

In a separate warning, Putin stated that the deployment of European military troops to Ukrainian territory would be equivalent to a direct war with Russia. This marks a significant escalation in rhetoric regarding European involvement in the conflict.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, the Kremlin rejected a proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to meet Putin at the G20 summit in Miami, asserting that any such meeting could only take place in Moscow. Meanwhile, reports indicated a Ukrainian drone strike in the Russian republic of Tatarstan, which resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.
