China begins construction on world's longest suspension bridge
Construction has commenced on the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge in China, a massive infrastructure project designed to become the world’s longest suspension bridge upon its completion in 2028.
Located in Jiangsu province, the bridge features a central span of 2,300 meters between its main towers. This will surpass the current record held by Turkey’s Çanakkale Bridge by 277 meters. The total length of the crossing is 7,859 meters, comprising a southern channel bridge, a northern channel bridge, and various access spans. The project is engineered to accommodate eight traffic lanes in both directions.
The development aims to reduce regional travel times and improve connectivity between the cities of Zhangjiagang, Jingjiang, and Rugao. The project is part of a broader expansion of the transport network across the Yangtze River.
