China challenges European electric truck market with lower costs

Chinese manufacturers are expanding their influence into the heavy-duty electric truck market, offering vehicles that are significantly cheaper than European alternatives. Experts suggest that Chinese electric trucks are reaching technical parity with Western models, potentially disrupting a sector that handles approximately 75 percent of land-based goods transport in Europe.

While the global truck market lacks a single dominant champion, China leads in volume. Sinotruk alone sells approximately 300,000 heavy trucks annually. In contrast, the European market is largely controlled by players such as Daimler Truck, Traton, and the Volvo Group. The industry is currently undergoing a major transition driven by electrification, software integration, and autonomous driving technologies.
