China deploys smart sensors to curb Yellow River floods

A smart‑sensor system has been put into operation along the Yutong stretch of the Yellow River in Shanxi province. The network uses real‑time data and automated alarms to improve flood monitoring and response.

In Hebei’s Kuancheng county, heavy rains from Typhoon Bavi caused severe flooding that stranded a driver. Firefighters and local residents used safety ropes to cross the torrent and rescue the woman from her disabled vehicle.

Both incidents illustrate China’s ongoing challenges with flood management and the use of technology to mitigate damage.
