China discovers potential gold reserves exceeding 1,000 tons

Geologists in China have identified a massive potential gold deposit in the Wangu gold field, located in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. Preliminary findings suggest the deposit could exceed 1,000 tons of gold, though this figure requires independent verification.

Exploration efforts have identified more than 40 gold-bearing veins at depths of approximately 3,000 meters. Three-dimensional geological modeling indicates that while 300 tons of reserves have been identified at a depth of 2,000 meters, the total amount could surpass 1,000 tons as drilling reaches deeper levels.

Researchers reported exceptionally high ore grades in certain samples. One drill core showed a concentration of up to 138 grams of gold per ton of ore. For context, highly profitable mines typically extract 1–3 grams per ton, while a grade of 10 grams per ton is considered very high. Exploration drilling has covered more than 65 kilometers in the surrounding area to track further mineralization.
