China electric vehicle sales dominate August 2026 market rankings
Electric vehicles (EVs) have achieved total dominance in China's top-selling passenger car rankings for August 2026. For the second month this year, no pure internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles appeared in the top 10 list. The highest-ranking gasoline-powered model, the Toyota Corolla, reached only the 13th position.
Nine of the top 10 spots were occupied by electric or plug-in hybrid models. The Geely EX2 led the market with 39,651 units sold, also maintaining its position as the best-selling EV in China for the year-to-date period. Other notable performers in the August rankings included the Leapmotor A10 and Tesla, which was the only manufacturer with two models—the Model Y and Model 3—in the top 10.
In the micro-EV segment, the Bestune Xiaoma 2027 was recently introduced in China. This compact vehicle features a 16.97 kWh LFP battery from CATL, providing a reported range of 222 km per charge. Designed for urban environments, the Xiaoma measures 3 meters in length and utilizes a practical interior layout with a column-mounted gear shifter to maximize cabin space.
