China express delivery volume exceeds 150 billion parcels

China's express delivery volume surpassed 150 billion parcels as of September 29, 2026, reaching this milestone 12 days earlier than in 2025, according to the State Post Office. This growth reflects the resilience and dynamism of the Chinese economy, with the sector maintaining double-digit growth rates for several years.

In 2025, the country handled 198.95 billion parcels, a 13.6% year-on-year increase. This momentum has continued into 2026, driven by stable economic conditions and rising consumer demand. China remains the world's second-largest consumer market.

During the first eight months of the year, total retail sales of goods and services rose by 2.5% year-on-year, while online retail sales reached nearly 13,480 billion yuan (approximately $2 trillion USD), a 4.6% increase. Fu Linghui, a spokesperson for the National Bureau of Statistics, noted that the consumer market is undergoing a structural transformation. Growth is particularly strong in smart and eco-friendly products, such as wearable devices and high-efficiency appliances, alongside the rising influence of live-streaming e-commerce and on-demand retail.
