China hosts launch of Global South Media Center
The Global South Media Center (CMPSur) has been established in China through an initiative involving four media organizations with correspondents in the country. The founding members include Prensa Latina, the television network teleSUR, the Brazilian outlet Brasil de Fato, and the Ghanaian network Pan Africa TV.
Jeff Xiong, Secretary-General of the Global South Academic Forum, stated that the center aims to strengthen joint journalistic production and build narratives from the perspective of the people. The initiative seeks to deepen ties between China and other Global South nations while challenging the dominant discursive frameworks of Northern Hemisphere media.
During the launch, Alejandro Gómez, Vice President of Prensa Latina, emphasized the importance of technological sovereignty and informational independence. He proposed creating a permanent training mechanism in artificial intelligence for journalists and media organizations within the Global South, working in cooperation with Chinese institutions and other specialized actors.
