China implements multi-pronged flood prevention measures

China is currently navigating a complex flood season characterized by heavy rainfall and multiple typhoons, including ‘Meashak’, ‘Bavi’, ‘Hongxia’, and ‘Whale Dolphin’. Water conservancy departments across the country are employing various technological and organizational strategies to mitigate disaster risks.

In Zhejiang, digital twin water conservancy platforms are being used to monitor hydrological data in real-time. In Anhui, autonomous flood forecasting systems have successfully predicted peak flows, while Sichuan has utilized rain radar to manage flash flood risks. In Heilongjiang, authorities implemented a ‘four-step work method’ involving centralized reservoir scheduling and emergency discharge to maintain dam safety during extreme rainfall.

On the ground, emergency response teams have been deployed to critical areas, such as the Jialu River in Henan, to manage dike breaches. National leadership has emphasized the importance of disaster prevention, calling for rigorous inspections, early warnings, and the protection of vulnerable populations to ensure the safety of lives and infrastructure.
