China intensifies CPC anti-corruption and political control

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has intensified its anti-corruption campaign and political supervision efforts. During the sixth plenary session of the XX Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in Beijing, officials evaluated disciplinary results from the first half of 2026 and established priorities for the coming months.

Led by Li Xi, the commission emphasized the need to strengthen ideological orientation and integrate Xi Jinping’s political thought into all inspection and supervision tasks. Key directives include deepening political inspections, ensuring discipline during leadership transitions, and addressing irregular practices that directly affect the population. The session also resulted in the election of Zhao Shiyong as deputy secretary and Zhang Zhong as a member of the Standing Committee.

The ongoing crackdown continues to impact various sectors, including the People's Liberation Army. Since 2012, the campaign has targeted provincial leaders, state-owned enterprise executives, and high-ranking military officials. Notably, the composition of the Central Military Commission has shifted significantly, with only Xi Jinping and Zhang Shengmin remaining from the seven members present at the end of 2022.
