China: Man dies of kidney failure after improper dietary self-treatment

A 41-year-old man in Fuzhou, China, has died from acute kidney failure caused by improper dietary management of a pre-existing condition. The man, identified as Mr. Tran, had been diagnosed with high uric acid levels two years prior.

Instead of following medical protocols, he attempted to self-treat by drastically reducing meat and oil intake while significantly increasing his consumption of vegetables. He reportedly ignored medical advice to limit vegetables high in purines and potassium, believing that eating more vegetables was universally beneficial.

His health declined rapidly in the months leading up to his death, characterized by weight loss, edema, and severe back pain. He eventually succumbed to complications from uremia and acute kidney failure. Dr. Wang Ngân Phong of Fujian Medical University General Hospital warned that while vegetables are healthy, excessive consumption of certain types can be dangerous for individuals with underlying medical conditions.
