Reports from China have highlighted fatal cases of acute kidney failure linked to the mismanagement of high uric acid levels.

In Tianjin, a 30-year-old man died following rapid progression from high uric acid to acute kidney failure, hyperkalemia, and cardiac arrhythmia. The individual had reportedly neglected dietary advice despite previous medical warnings.

In Fuzhou, a 41-year-old man died after attempting to self-treat a pre-existing condition by drastically increasing vegetable consumption. He reportedly ignored medical advice to limit vegetables high in purines and potassium. His death resulted from complications including uremia and acute kidney failure. Dr. Wang Ngân Phong of Fujian Medical University General Hospital noted that while vegetables are generally healthy, excessive consumption of certain types can be dangerous for those with specific underlying medical conditions.
