China MIIT flags BYD and Geely-related firms for NEV production violations

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has exposed several new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers for violating production consistency and quality safety standards. The crackdown involves major industry players, including BYD and Geely Holding Group's production base, Zhejiang Haoqing.

Key violations identified include:

• Dimensional discrepancies: Vehicles such as the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan (produced by Zhejiang Haoqing) and certain power vehicles from Hebei Hongchun had wheelbase or height dimensions exceeding the 1% allowable error margin. • Fuel consumption issues: A BYD plug-in hybrid sedan (Qin L DM-i) recorded fuel consumption in battery-hold mode that exceeded its official declared values. • Documentation and component mismatches: Zhonglian Heavy Industry's electric concrete mixers lacked manuals and had inconsistent tire data, while Guangxi Automobile Group's refrigerated trucks had incorrect monitoring device models. • Safety standard failures: Certain buses and dump trucks failed to meet national standards regarding emergency window areas and side/rear protection devices.

In response, the MIIT has ordered rectifications and, in some cases, suspended or revoked product announcements and electronic certificate transmissions. This announcement follows a multi-departmental initiative to launch a one-year special action plan to improve vehicle reliability and production consistency through unannounced inspections.
