China NEV sales share exceeds 60 percent in July 2026
China's new-energy vehicle (NEV) market reached a significant milestone in July 2026, with NEV sales accounting for more than 60 percent of total monthly new car sales for the first time. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), NEV sales in July reached 1.56 million units, a 23.7 percent increase year on year. For the first seven months of the year, the cumulative NEV market share surpassed 50 percent.
In the regional market of Hunan province, data for the first half of 2026 shows a mixed landscape. While the top three overall passenger vehicle models were internal combustion engine vehicles—the Dongfeng Nissan Sylphy, GAC Toyota Frontlander, and Toyota Camry—the Geely Xingyuan emerged as the leading NEV model with 3,507 units. BYD maintained a dominant presence in the regional NEV sector, with 10 of its models appearing in the top 30 list.
Vehicle exports also showed strong growth, with total exports reaching 1.04 million units in July, an 81.3 percent year-on-year increase. NEV exports specifically rose 1.5-fold to 553,000 units, representing over half of all vehicle exports for the second consecutive month.
