China unveils new intellectual property strategy for 2026–2030
China is implementing a new intellectual property (IP) strategy as part of its 15th Five-Year Plan for the 2026–2030 period. The strategy aims to align IP development with national economic goals, focusing on cutting-edge scientific discovery and high-quality economic growth.
Key priorities include strengthening IP protections for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, algorithms, blockchain, big data, and cloud computing. The plan also targets digital content sectors, including internet publishing, audiovisual works, and online literature, to protect the growing international presence of Chinese digital products like video games and web novels.
To manage international risks, China intends to establish a database for cross-border IP disputes and increase cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The government has set ambitious targets, aiming to position China as a global IP power by 2030 and to have copyright-related industries contribute 7.53 percent to the national GDP by that year.
