China-Pakistan $850 Million Pharmaceutical Partnership Signed
A Chinese business delegation led by Yuzhonghe Supply Chain Co. Ltd. CEO Vince Ma met with the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce in early July to explore joint ventures in pharmaceuticals, medical technology and supply‑chain services. The talks set the stage for the Pakistan‑China Pharmaceutical and Healthcare B2B Investment Conference held in Islamabad on July 17‑18.
At the conference, Pakistani authorities and Chinese firms concluded 16 contracts and 80 memoranda of understanding valued at about $850 million. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal highlighted the agreements as a major step toward reducing Pakistan’s reliance on imported vaccines and active pharmaceutical ingredients, which currently supply most of the country’s health needs for its 240 million people. The cooperation aims to boost local manufacturing, technology transfer and vaccine production, addressing chronic shortages that have contributed to preventable disease outbreaks.
The deals involve more than 140 Chinese companies and over 200 Pakistani firms, signalling a deepening of bilateral economic ties in the pharmaceutical sector.
