Pakistan-China investment partnership

Overview

In late July 2026, Pakistan’s federal ministers launched a broad appeal to Chinese firms for investment in maritime and logistics infrastructure. Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlighted plans to modernise Karachi, Port Qasim and Gwadar ports, develop logistics parks, multimodal corridors and green‑shipping initiatives, positioning Pakistan as a regional trade hub. Concurrently, Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal chaired a Pakistan‑China Pharmaceutical & Healthcare B2B Investment Conference, where 22 agreements and MoUs totaling roughly $1.43 billion were signed, covering vaccine production, API manufacturing, medical devices and clinical trials.

A few days later, a Chinese delegation led by Yuzhonghe Supply Chain’s CEO met Islamabad’s chamber of commerce, finalising the pharmaceutical side of the cooperation. The conference concluded 16 contracts and 80 memoranda of understanding valued at about $850 million. Pakistani officials emphasized that the deals are intended to lessen reliance on imported vaccines and active pharmaceutical ingredients, boost local manufacturing, technology transfer and vaccine production, and address chronic shortages that have caused preventable disease outbreaks.
