China pledges support for Korala border point amid road closures

The Korala border point, a vital trade and transit route between Nepal and China, faces significant disruptions due to floods, landslides, and erosion along the Kali Gandaki Corridor. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road remains partially closed, with the Department of Roads estimating it will take approximately another week to fully reopen the route for regular traffic.

Severe damage includes a 100-metre section of road that has sunk near Begkhola and a major landslide at Baiseri. While some sections, such as the Ghansa-Korala stretch, have resumed two-way traffic, other areas remain impassable even for pedestrians.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming conducted an on-site inspection of the border point and the Mustang district to assess the situation. He pledged that China would provide necessary support to streamline trade and secure the movement of goods. Discussions included the potential for the Korala Customs Office to operate around the clock and addressing the transport of Chinese goods currently stranded by the road damage.
