China PMI rises while Indonesia manufacturing PMI falls in June

China's official statistics show the manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) increased to 50.3 in June, up from 50 the previous month, keeping the index in expansion territory. The non‑manufacturing PMI also rose to 50.2. Growth was strongest in high‑tech equipment, computers, communications, agricultural processing and other sectors, prompting analysts to note improving business confidence.

In contrast, Indonesia's S&P Global manufacturing PMI slipped to 46.9 in June, firmly in contraction. Economists warned the decline could pressure employment, especially in textiles, footwear, electronics and automotive components, and may signal a broader deindustrialisation trend if it persists. Business groups and officials urged the government to improve the business climate, reduce production costs and support demand to prevent layoffs.
