China promotes Global Development Initiative at United Nations
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng stated that China is prepared to work with all parties to support true multilateralism and advance the Global Development Initiative (GDI). Speaking at a high-level dialogue organized by China at the United Nations headquarters, Han noted that the GDI has evolved from a Chinese concept into a collective international effort since its proposal by President Xi Jinping in September 2021.
Han emphasized that the GDI has strengthened international consensus on prioritizing development, addressed the needs of the Global South, and contributed to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Highlighting that global development faces serious challenges and is currently behind schedule, Han proposed four key actions: strengthening solidarity to implement sustainable development goals, maintaining an action-oriented approach, expanding cooperation priorities to support empowerment, and strengthening partnerships to promote integrated development.
