China promotes local resource development and global cooperation

Chinese diplomats are emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and local resource management to drive economic growth and stability, particularly within Africa.

During a seminar for Francophone African journalists in Beijing, former Chinese Ambassador to Gabon, Sun Jiwen, highlighted the need for local resource valorization and industrial capacity building. He argued that processing natural resources locally and developing domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing are essential to creating wealth and improving living standards. Additionally, he identified agricultural development as a critical factor for ensuring food security and reducing import dependency.

In a separate effort marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Sun Yong, the Chinese Ambassador to Guinea, and Jiang Feng, head of the Chinese Mission to the African Union, issued a joint statement. They called for strengthened consensus and inclusive, sustainable development. The GDI, launched by President Xi Jinping five years ago, aims to accelerate the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through international cooperation, with projects already active in over 120 countries.
