Xi Jinping to Visit Washington on Sept 24 2026, AI to be Key Topic

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Washington on 24 September 2026. Trump said, “President Xi will come on September 24. We talked about AI in Beijing and we will talk about it again,” and highlighted artificial intelligence as a strategic priority for the United States.

The statement follows a May summit in Beijing where the two leaders agreed to launch an inter‑governmental dialogue on AI. In the weeks before the announcement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Manila to lay the groundwork for a “very positive” visit. The White House also signaled that concerns over alleged Chinese AI‑related intellectual‑property theft and model‑distillation practices will be raised during the talks.

Analysts view the scheduled meeting as a sign of renewed diplomatic engagement between the world’s two largest economies, even as broader U.S.–China tensions over technology, trade and security continue.
