China sanctions company owned by Taiwanese lawmaker’s father

China has imposed new sanctions on VWAY, a company owned by Shen Tu-cheng, the father of Taiwanese lawmaker and Taipei mayoral candidate Puma Shen. The Taiwan Affairs Office announced the measures on October 14, prohibiting the company from conducting transactions or cooperating with Chinese businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Puma Shen is a prominent critic of the Chinese Communist Party and an advocate for Taiwanese sovereignty. This move follows previous restrictions imposed by Beijing in June 2025 on Sicuens International Co. Ltd., another firm headed by Shen Tu-cheng. Shen has previously been sanctioned and placed on a wanted list by Beijing.

In response to the sanctions, Shen dismissed the impact, noting that Beijing has already taken extensive measures against him. He also rejected allegations from pro-Beijing media claiming his family's business had secretly profited from Chinese firms, stating that his family's business dealings have been with Ecuador.
