China sees nine rivers exceed flood alert levels

China's Ministry of Water Resources reported that nine rivers in six provinces have risen above flood‑alert thresholds following recent heavy rains and upstream runoff. Seven rivers in five provinces recorded water levels above the alert line, with the highest exceedance of 0.75 m, while two rivers in Xinjiang showed slightly higher flows.

The ministry has kept a level‑III emergency response for flood control in Liaoning and Jilin and a level‑IV response for Guangdong, Guangxi, Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing and Guizhou. Additionally, the West River in the Pearl River basin recorded the first numbered flood of the year, designated "West River 2026 No. 1 flood", prompting upgraded emergency measures and the deployment of water‑management teams.

These actions reflect the extensive monitoring and flood‑defense measures being undertaken across China as intense rainfall continues to affect multiple regions.
