An experimental maglev vehicle in China has set a new world record by accelerating from 0 to 800 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. The test was conducted at the Donghu Laboratory in Hubei province on a specialized 1-kilometer track.

The vehicle, weighing approximately 1.1 tonnes, reached its top speed halfway through the track before coming to a controlled stop within roughly 200 meters. This achievement marks the third time this same prototype has broken a speed record within a six-month period.

Researchers emphasized that this unmanned test sled is not intended for passenger transport. The extreme acceleration forces, reaching approximately 4.3 G, would be dangerous for humans. Instead, the technology is being developed to advance applications in aerospace, such as rocket launch systems and high-speed military propulsion.
