China steps up flood control as heavy rains loom in July‑August

China’s meteorological agencies forecast widespread heavy rain from mid‑July to early August, with a strong typhoon expected to move inland, raising flood and landslide risks across the north, northeast, and southern regions. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Office and the Ministry of Emergency Management convened a multi‑agency meeting to assess the situation, maintain level‑3 emergency response in Liaoning and Jilin and level‑4 in Heilongjiang and Shandong, and coordinate resources for dam safety, reservoir management and rapid rescue.

In parallel, Henan province conducted large‑scale flood‑prevention drills involving inflatable boats, drones, pump trucks and rescue teams in Zhengzhou, Dengzhou and Zhoukou.
