China strengthens intellectual property protection and legal support

China is advancing legal and technical frameworks to strengthen intellectual property (IP) protection. The Supreme People's Procuratorate has released a series of typical cases demonstrating how technical support is being integrated into IP prosecutions. These cases address complex issues such as patent infringement, trade secret non-publicity, and copyright protection through the use of technical investigators, judicial expertise, and forensic appraisals.

In Beijing, authorities are working to improve the public service system for IP to support domestic companies expanding internationally. Discussions led by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC emphasize the need for a full-lifecycle service mechanism—covering pre-departure inspections, real-time warnings, dispute support, and post-dispute reviews. Proposed measures include upgrading overseas IP big data platforms, establishing risk prevention centers, and providing financial aid or insurance to help enterprises navigate foreign legal environments and mitigate risks like patent disputes and trademark squatting.
