China targets 40% electric truck sales by 2030

China has set a goal for electric trucks to account for 40% of all trucks sold by 2030. To reach the target, electric trucks are to receive priority in public procurement and receive support through dedicated programmes.

The aim far exceeds the European Union’s plan, which envisions only 20% of its truck fleet being electric by the same date. Commentators note that China already has a much larger share of electric trucks and is rolling out sodium‑based batteries that charge in 15 minutes and last up to 30 years, giving it a technical edge over Europe.
