Recent social media discussions in China have highlighted the complexities and risks associated with large celebratory banquets held for students passing university entrance exams.

In Chongqing, a 2019 incident involving a celebration for a student's admission resulted in a fatality due to ethanol poisoning. During the event, a guest was reportedly pressured into consuming large amounts of white liquor. Following the man's death, seven individuals were brought to court, serving as a legal warning regarding the responsibilities associated with social drinking and coerced consumption.

Separately, a story from Heilongjiang province has sparked debate after a family organized a massive banquet to celebrate a grandson's admission to Wuhan University. Despite booking 35 tables to accommodate hundreds of guests and potentially recoup previous gift money, fewer than two tables were actually occupied. The discrepancy between the grand scale of the event and the low attendance has drawn significant attention online.
