China warns Philippines with South China Sea drills near Huangyan Dao

Chinese defence spokesperson Chen Xi said the People's Liberation Army's military exercises and law‑enforcement training around Huangyan Dao and its adjacent waters are a “serious warning” against violations and provocations by the Philippines. The remarks came after Manila lodged an official nautical chart of the disputed feature with the United Nations, which Beijing called a breach of its sovereignty.

Beijing reiterated that Huangyan Dao is inherent Chinese territory, that it has continuously exercised peaceful and effective jurisdiction there, and that only China is entitled under international law to set the baselines of the feature’s territorial sea. Chen urged the Philippines to cease all “illegal” actions, stop its propaganda, and warned that the Chinese military would take firm and effective counter‑measures against any further provocations.
