China's AI Chip Industry Expands with New 3D‑Stacked Startup and Investor Spotlight
A Chinese artificial‑intelligence chip start‑up, Dongfang Suanxin, announced its public debut, touting 3D‑stacked near‑memory computing and software‑defined chips built on a fully domestic supply chain. Led by veteran Wei Shaojun, the company aims to bypass U.S. export controls that have limited access to Nvidia’s high‑end GPUs.
At the same time, Macquarie launched research coverage of five Chinese AI‑chip firms, noting strong government policy support, recent IPOs and a captive market created by U.S. restrictions. Analysts highlight Huawei’s projected 50% share of the domestic market by 2026 and forecast the sector’s value to grow from $21 billion to $67 billion by 2030. Nine AI‑chip products have received Chinese “secure and reliable” certification, qualifying them for government procurement and potentially reshaping global AI‑compute economics.
