Pope Leo XIV to visit Peru in November following lung surgery

Pope Leo XIV Vatican Peru visit Archdiocese of Lima papal itinerary

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Peru from November 11 to 16, 2026, according to the Archdiocese of Lima. The pontiff will visit Lima, Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Cusco, and Pucallpa.

Following a recent surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung due to an adenocarcinoma, health precautions have been heightened. Plans include the use of a Peruvian Air Force ambulance helicopter to assist with respiratory needs, particularly during high-altitude travel in Santa Cruz de Succhabamba. To prevent fatigue, the Pope may also use elevators instead of stairs during his visit to the Lima Cathedral.

A Vatican delegation is expected to arrive in Peru at the end of October to conduct a final coordination visit focusing on security and logistics. Meanwhile, the Pope has already sent messages of blessing to Peruvian devotees during the festivities of the Lord of Miracles after being discharged from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
