Chinese automaker BYD breaks into Fortune Global 500 top 100

BYD Company Ltd was ranked 91st in the 2026 Fortune Global 500, marking its fifth consecutive appearance and its first entry into the list’s top 100. The company reported 2025 revenue of about ¥804 billion (≈ $111 billion) and a net profit of ¥32.6 billion. New‑energy vehicle sales reached 4.6 million units in 2025 and over 1.8 million in the first half of 2026, with the 17 millionth new‑energy vehicle produced in July 2026.

BYD launched the “Racco” micro‑car for Japan’s kei‑car segment, targeting roughly 10 000 units annually and competing with the Nissan Sakura. The same day the Chinese patent office (CNIPA) published a BYD patent for a solid‑state battery cathode that combines halide and sulfide electrolytes. The group invested ¥63.4 billion in R&D in 2025, supporting innovations such as the second‑generation Blade Battery and FLASH charging. International sales now cover 121 countries, though domestic growth in China has slowed.
