Chinese automaker GAC secures $1.3 bn Brazil plant and fast‑charging network partnership

Chinese automaker GAC was officially approved by Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services to join the MOVER (Mobilidade Verde e Inovação) program. The approval enables GAC’s US$1.3 billion investment plan that includes building a vehicle manufacturing facility in Catalão, Goiás, with a target capacity of 50,000 units per year and a start of production slated for 2027. The project also calls for a research and development centre focused on flex‑fuel engines and REEV technology, and it positions GAC to receive financial credits under the program’s incentives.

In parallel, GAC has partnered with charging‑infrastructure firm GreenV and mobility platform 99 to create a fast‑charging network for electric vehicles in Brazil. The three‑party agreement targets the installation of 242 rapid‑charging points by 2030, located at GAC dealerships and dedicated hubs in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. GAC will supply the chargers, GreenV will invest in and operate the network, and 99 will generate demand through its driver app. The collaboration is part of the broader Aliança pela Mobilidade Sustentável, which unites more than 30 companies promoting low‑carbon mobility in the country.
