Chinese banks dominate top four global positions by total assets

According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence based on 2025 year-end financial statements, Chinese banks dominate the top of the global banking rankings by total assets. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) remains the world's largest bank for the 13th consecutive year, with assets totaling approximately USD 7.65 trillion.

China holds the first four positions on the list. Following ICBC, the Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank, and Bank of China rank second, third, and fourth, respectively. Together, these four institutions hold more than USD 26 trillion in assets.

In the United States, JPMorgan Chase & Co. ranks fifth globally with USD 4.42 trillion in assets, making it the largest bank outside of China. While it ranks fifth in asset size, it remains the world's most valuable bank in terms of market capitalization. Other major US banks include Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and Goldman Sachs.

In Europe, France's BNP Paribas has become the continent's largest bank with USD 3.28 trillion in assets, overtaking the United Kingdom's HSBC. Other notable entries in the top ten include France's Crédit Agricole and China's Postal Savings Bank of China.
