Chinese cars surge to about 15% of Poland's new vehicle registrations

Chinese automakers are rapidly expanding their presence in Poland. Their share of new passenger‑car registrations rose from 1.9 % in 2024 to 14.6 % in May 2026, and forecasts suggest the share could reach 20 % by next year. Brands such as Omoda, which sold over five thousand units between January and May 2026, Jaecoo with nearly 2,900 units, and MG – a former UK brand now owned by China – which ranked 13th with 7,200 registrations, are leading the growth. Other Chinese marques like BYD, Chery, and BAIC also reported strong year‑on‑year gains.

In May 2026, Poland recorded a record 55,787 new car registrations, a 7.4 % increase over the previous year and the highest May figure of the 21st century. Toyota remained the market leader with 14.66 % of registrations, followed by Skoda (10.47 %) and Volkswagen (7.23 %). Overall, 283,426 new cars have been registered this year, while Chinese brands now account for almost 15 % of all new registrations.
