Chinese electric vehicle makers push into Brazil's market

BAIC's chief operating officer for Brazil, Oswaldo Ramos, said the Brazilian market has only seen a small glimpse of true Chinese premium electric cars. At the e‑Days 2026 event in Rio, he noted that flagship models from brands such as Nio, Li Auto, Huawei, Arcfox and the BAIC‑Stelato joint venture showcase advanced software, high‑voltage architectures, LiDAR and sophisticated driver‑assist systems that go beyond price competition. Ramos suggested that these premium offerings are still largely unknown to Brazilian consumers, who historically associate Chinese cars with low‑cost vehicles.

Great Wall Motor (GWM) also announced a strategic price cut for its Ora 03 BEV, lowering the price by R$20,000 to R$149,990 after the launch of the higher‑spec Ora 05. The move aims to strengthen GWM's position against BYD's Dolphin model and expand its share in Brazil's growing electric‑vehicle market.
