Chinese electric vehicles earn five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings

Three Chinese electric vehicles achieved the maximum five-star safety rating under the Euro NCAP’s rigorous 2026 assessment protocols. The models tested were the GAC Aion UT, the Geely E2 (marketed as the EX2 in some regions), and the Leapmotor B05.

According to Euro NCAP Programme Director Dr. Aled Williams, the results demonstrate that Chinese manufacturers are working to meet high European standards. The Aion UT, an electric hatchback, scored high in collision protection and post-collision safety, though testers noted an over-reliance on the central touchscreen. The Geely E2 showed strong post-collision safety but faced criticism for inconsistent automatic emergency braking and insufficient driver leg protection in certain frontal impacts. The Leapmotor B05 also secured the five-star rating, performing well in collision protection.

In comparison, the Cupra Raval, the only European model in the group, received a four-star rating in its standard configuration, though it could reach five stars with an optional safety package.
