Chinese electric vehicles enter German market via imports and luxury models

Chinese automotive manufacturers and parallel importers are increasingly targeting the German market with electric vehicles. The importer Auto China has begun offering the AUDI E5 Sportback and E7X in Germany. These models, developed through a joint venture between Audi and SAIC, were originally designed for the Chinese market and feature a branding style without the traditional four rings. While these vehicles are being homologated for EU standards, prices in Germany are approximately double those in China, with the E5 Sportback starting at €59,980 and the E7X at €72,900.

Simultaneously, Chinese luxury competition is intensifying. The Maextro S800, a collaboration between Huawei and JAC, is positioning itself against established European luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. The S800 features advanced high-tech integration and luxury amenities, such as a 40-inch screen and massage seats. In China, the model has seen significant success, with sales in December reportedly outperforming the combined flagship sales of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Maybach, and Porsche. The vehicle is priced competitively, starting at approximately €86,000.
