Chinese electric vehicles expand presence in Slovakia and Switzerland

The presence of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in the European market is expanding rapidly through both direct brand imports and complex manufacturing partnerships. In Slovakia, the number of Chinese EV configurations—including passenger and commercial vehicles—has risen to 73 as of mid-2026. This growth includes established brands like BYD, XPeng, and Leapmotor, as well as models from European or Japanese brands manufactured in China, such as certain MINI and Volvo models.

The market now spans a wide range of price points, from the Leapmotor T03 starting under €19,000 to high-performance models like the Dongfeng M-HERO 917 costing nearly €200,000.

In Switzerland, the manufacturer XPeng has expanded its lineup with the introduction of the P7+ electric sedan. While some XPeng models are produced in Europe at Magna Steyr in Austria, models destined for the Swiss market are being manufactured in China. The P7+ is positioned as a high-tech alternative to European premium competitors, offering a range of 520 km and competing in the upper mid-range segment.
