China sees rising energy demand for EVs and data services

In China, electricity consumption for electric vehicle (EV) charging and internet data services saw significant growth in July. According to the National Energy Administration, electricity used for battery charging and replacement services reached 16.4 billion kWh, a 50.3% year-on-year increase. Internet data services consumption rose 40.1% to 9.9 billion kWh. Total Chinese electricity consumption rose 1.7% to 1,040 billion kWh, with high-tech manufacturing and equipment production seeing an 8.9% increase.

Simultaneously, Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturers are expanding their presence in the Italian market. Data from UNRAE indicates that BYD registered 33,973 vehicles in Italy during the first seven months of 2026, a nearly 195% annual increase, raising its market share to 3.2%. Additionally, the Leapmotor T03 accounted for approximately 26% of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) market in Italy, with 22,353 registrations reported between January and July.
