Chinese EV and hybrid brands see growth amid shifting market dynamics
The Chinese automotive market is experiencing significant shifts as domestic electric and hybrid brands gain momentum. The Audi E7X, a collaboration between SAIC and Audi, surpassed 10,000 cumulative sales by the end of August, becoming the first luxury pure electric model to reach this milestone within 100 days of launch.
In the plug-in hybrid segment, the Huajing S emerged as the top-selling large PHEV SUV in August with 7,306 units sold. Meanwhile, Avatr has entered the industrial announcement phase for its 9-series flagship SUV, which features over 1,000 horsepower and integrated Huawei intelligent driving technology.
On the international front, XPeng reported strong growth, with overseas sales exceeding 20,000 units in Q2, driven by high performance in markets including France, Norway, and Israel. Conversely, Japanese automakers are facing challenges in China; Toyota, Nissan, and Honda saw significant year-on-year sales declines in August, attributed to intense price competition from local electric vehicle manufacturers.
