Influencer Jiang Xiaorou dies at 24 following car accident

Chinese paranormal content creator Jiang Xiaorou, also known as Li Xiuting, died at age 24 on August 10 after nearly a month in intensive care. She had been hospitalized following a serious car accident on July 15 while traveling from Guangxi toward Guangzhou.

Jiang, who had approximately 1.5 million followers on the Douyin platform, specialized in investigating abandoned buildings and challenging superstitions. Her death has sparked significant discussion on social media due to a video from August 2025 in which she deliberately destroyed a clay statue of the Buddhist deity Guanyin. At the time, she presented the act as an experiment to test the consequences of breaking religious icons.

While many social media users have linked the accident to the destruction of the statue through discussions of karma, there is no evidence connecting the two events. Her family has released a statement via her Douyin account requesting that the public respect the facts and refrain from spreading unverified information or speculation regarding her death.
