Chinese manjha kite strings cause death and injury in Delhi-NCR

A series of incidents involving banned Chinese manjha, a sharp kite-flying string, has resulted in fatalities and injuries in the Delhi-NCR region.

In Ghaziabad, a 25-year-old delivery worker named Raviraj died after the string became entangled around his neck while he was riding a motorcycle on National Highway-9 near Kaushambi. The injury was severe enough to reach the bone, and despite efforts by his friend and passers-by to control the bleeding, he was declared dead at a hospital.

In a separate incident in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area, a 35-year-old man, Gaurav Sharma, was injured when manjha from a stray kite slit his throat while he was stopped at a traffic signal. He was rushed to GTB Hospital and is reported to be out of danger.

In response to the ongoing danger posed by the prohibited material, Delhi Police recently conducted operations in central Delhi, arresting two men and seizing 42 packets of banned Chinese manjha and three chakris.
