Chinese researchers propose hydrogen-powered heating system
Researchers from Dongguan University of Technology and Sun Yat-sen University in China have proposed a new heating system concept designed to operate without a connection to the electrical grid. The technology utilizes a hydrogen fuel cell to generate electricity on-site to power a heat pump.
The system employs carbon dioxide (CO2) as a refrigerant instead of traditional synthetic refrigerants, offering a lower global warming potential. Additionally, the design incorporates a storage tank containing hexadecane tubes, which absorb and store thermal energy as the substance transitions from a solid to a liquid state at approximately 18 degrees Celsius.
While the research, published in Results in Engineering, shows promise through computer simulations, a functional physical prototype has not yet been developed.
