Gyeongsan Police arrest Chinese lecturer for murder of graduate student

A 30-year-old Chinese man has been arrested for the murder of a 25-year-old Chinese graduate student in Gyeongsan, South Korea. The victim had traveled to the country to attend her graduation ceremony at Daegu Catholic University.

Police discovered the victim's body on August 25 at the suspect's residence in Hayang-eup. Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was a lecturer at the same graduate school the victim attended, had attempted to deceive authorities. He filed a missing person report on August 21, claiming to be the victim's boyfriend and stating she had gone to Daegu and lost contact.

CCTV footage showed the suspect wearing the victim's clothing and a mask to travel to Dongdaegu Station, where he turned off her phone, before changing back into male clothing and returning home. Authorities are also investigating reports that the suspect mutilated and attempted to dispose of parts of the victim's body. Police are currently pursuing charges including murder and obstruction of justice.
