Chinese vehicles gain ground in Brazil, narrowing gap with Toyota Hilux

In June 2026, the Brazilian automotive market recorded 1,119 retail registrations for the Toyota Hilux SW4, 1,046 for the Chinese‑made GWM Haval H9, and 993 for the Toyota Corolla, according to Fenabrave data. The sales figures show Chinese models closing the historic lead of Toyota, driven by consumer interest in newer technology, large touch‑screen interfaces, artificial‑intelligence features and enhanced connectivity.

Industry analysts note that brand authority alone no longer guarantees buyer preference. While Toyota remains associated with reliability, durability and resale value, Chinese manufacturers have focused on modern in‑car experiences to attract buyers seeking a more connected driving feel. The trend signals a shift in Brazilian consumer priorities and suggests intensified competition for market share in the country's pickup and sedan segments.
