Chisinau's Arcul de Triumf to undergo restoration starting 2027

The Moldovan government has approved a decision to facilitate the restoration of the Arcul de Triumf in Chisinau. To enable the process, the monument and its adjacent land will be officially registered as public state property. The Ministry of Culture will administer the monument, while the Public Property Agency will manage the surrounding land.

Administrative and technical preparations are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This timeline aims to allow for the selection of contractors and the commencement of physical restoration works in March or April 2027. For the 2026 budget, 5 million lei has been allocated to the Ministry of Culture for technical documentation and feasibility studies.

Built in 1841, the 13-meter-tall Corinthian-style structure is a major architectural symbol of the capital. However, the monument has suffered significant degradation, with experts noting that the limestone is eroding and the lower sections require structural consolidation. The last major restoration took place over 50 years ago in 1973.
