Mandakini River flooding devastates Chitrakoot and Satna regions

Severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall and the breach of the Gorgi Dam has devastated the Chitrakoot and Satna regions in Madhya Pradesh. The Mandakini River reached a record water level of 137 meters, surpassing its previous 2003 record.

The flooding has submerged over 400 houses and shops, particularly in the Ramghat area, and has cut off several villages. Infrastructure damage is significant, including a 300-foot bridge in the Hanuman Dhara area being washed away and damage to the Karvi-Bedi Puliya bridge approach road, leading to a ban on heavy vehicle movement. Railway services have also been disrupted due to waterlogging on tracks near Chitrakoot.

Rescue operations are underway, involving the NDRF, SDRF, and the military using helicopters to airlift stranded residents from rooftops. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the affected areas to assess damage and has promised government compensation for those who lost livestock, food grains, and property. Relief camps have been established to provide food, water, and essential supplies to displaced families.
