Overview

Severe flooding caused by the Mandakini and Semrawal rivers has struck the Chitrakoot region, affecting areas across the borders of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. In addition to infrastructure damage, the Deendayal Shodh Sansthan reported significant inundation of its dental hospital, educational centers, and other facilities, with losses estimated at approximately Rs 3.5 crore. Relief efforts have involved NDRF and SDRF teams, aerial surveys via helicopter, and drone monitoring, alongside financial assistance from organizations like Baljagat. Recent developments indicate that heavy rainfall and a breach of the Gorgi Dam have further devastated the Chitrakoot and Satna regions. The Mandakini River reached a record water level of 137 meters, surpassing its previous 2003 record. Over 400 houses and shops have been submerged, cutting off several villages. Heavy vehicle movement is currently banned due to damage to the Karvi-Bedi Puliya bridge approach road. Rescue operations have expanded to include the military, using helicopters to airlift stranded residents from rooftops. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has visited the affected areas, promising government compensation for losses of livestock, food grains, and property. Relief camps are now providing food, water, and essential supplies to displaced families.
